….as some return with flying colors
Bea Mountain Mining Corporation’s (BMMC) commitment to workforce development is yielding tangible results as several employees benefit from the company’s ongoing scholarship program. Through this initiative, deserving employees are given the opportunity to pursue higher education, equipping them with advanced skills that contribute not only to their personal growth but also to the broader economic development of Liberia.
The company’s scholarship program underscores its role in national capacity-building, providing full financial support for employees to advance their education while maintaining job security. One such beneficiary, Prince C. Toe from the Finance Department, was awarded a full scholarship in September 2022 to pursue a Master of Business Administration at Near East University in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. His sponsorship covered tuition, housing, feeding, and a full salary throughout his studies.
Returning to Liberia in February 2025 with his MBA in hand, Toe expressed deep gratitude to the company for its investment in his future. “This opportunity not only represents a personal achievement but also highlights the company’s commitment to developing local talent,” he said. “The support I have received has provided me with the financial stability to focus on my studies and enhance my skills and knowledge. I am eager to apply what I have learned to contribute to the company and the community.”
Bea Mountain’s scholarship program continues to expand, with two more employees awarded full scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year. Norrison Sonnie has been granted a one-year scholarship to obtain a Master’s in Mineral Exploration from the University of Science and Technology in Ghana, while Dehkar A.N. Karworzohn will undertake a two-year Master’s in Mineral Exploration at the Pan African University in Nigeria. Both recipients will receive full financial support, including tuition, accommodation, feeding, and salaries during their studies.
Karworzohn, an exploration geologist with the company, expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity. “I’m fully committed to being an ambassador for Bea Mountain Mining Corporation and representing our values and mission with pride,” he stated. “I understand the importance of this opportunity, not only for my personal growth but also for the contributions I can make to our company and to Liberia upon my return.”
Bea Mountain’s scholarship initiative is not limited to full sponsorships; the company also offers partial scholarships and study leave options on a case-by-case basis. In 2024, Isaac ZK Sasraku, a member of the Community Relations Department, received partial support to pursue a master’s in organizational leadership and management at the Egyptian Evangelical Theological University in Cairo, Egypt. His academic achievement was followed by a promotion from Community Relations Supervisor to Community Relations Superintendent.
Reflecting on his career advancement, Sasraku shared his excitement. “This position has been a goal of mine for nearly a decade, so it is fulfilling both personally and professionally to finally get here. I am thankful to Bea Mountain Mining Corporation for helping me achieve it,” he said. “It’s exciting to be recognized for my hard work and dedication in this way, and it empowers and encourages me to do my best for this company for many more years to come.”
Beyond supporting its employees, Bea Mountain Mining Corporation extends its educational initiatives to the broader community. The company believes that an educated community will, in turn, drive social and economic progress, reinforcing its mission to foster sustainable development through education.
As the scholarship program continues, more employees and community members are expected to benefit, further strengthening the local talent pool and ensuring long-term contributions to Liberia’s workforce and economy.
