Suakoko, Bong County – June 10, 2025: Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Health, Martha C. T. Morris, has commended the graduating class of the College of Health Sciences at Cuttington University, describing their advancement as a “significant step” in strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system.
Speaking at a special event held on Cuttington’s main campus in Suakoko, Bong County over the weekend, Minister Morris lauded the students for their commitment to the nursing profession, while underscoring their efforts as indispensable to national development and public health delivery.
“Your journey so far is not just an academic achievement; it is a commitment to serve humanity,” Minister Morris told the nursing candidates. “As you prepare to take your professional oath, remember that your role is central to the well-being of our citizens and the advancement of our nation.”
The Deputy Minister urged the students to uphold the core values of nursing, including integrity, compassion, and discipline, which she described as essential traits for any healthcare professional. She also reminded them of the moral and ethical responsibilities they assume as they enter a profession built on trust and service.
Beyond traditional clinical training, Minister Morris encouraged the graduates to pursue additional competencies that align with modern healthcare demands. She specifically pointed to computer literacy as a critical skill in today’s digital medical landscape.
“Healthcare is evolving, and so must you,” she said. “Whether it’s using electronic medical records or participating in global telehealth networks, technology will be at the heart of how care is delivered.”
The gathering formed part of a series of pre-commencement events celebrating the achievements of students from across Cuttington’s health sciences programs. Dozens are expected to receive degrees in nursing, public health, and other allied health disciplines at the university’s upcoming graduation ceremony.
Cuttington University, one of Liberia’s most prestigious higher education institutions, has long been a cornerstone in the training of health professionals. Its College of Health Sciences continues to contribute significantly to the national workforce, particularly in underserved areas where access to quality care remains limited.
Minister Morris concluded her remarks by reaffirming the Ministry of Health’s commitment to supporting health education and creating pathways for young professionals to thrive in both rural and urban healthcare settings.
“The future of our healthcare system depends on you,” she said. “We are proud of your achievements and look forward to the positive impact you will make in communities across Liberia.”
The event was attended by university faculty, family members, government representatives, and well-wishers who applauded the graduates for reaching a major milestone in their academic and professional journeys.
