Cairo, Egypt – Dr. Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) for a second four-year term.

The confirmation came during CAF’s 14th Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, securing Motsepe’s leadership until 2029.

A Legacy of Growth and Stability

Motsepe’s re-election follows a first term widely praised for stabilizing CAF’s finances and enhancing its global profile. Under his leadership, the organization achieved several milestones, including record viewership of 1.4 billion worldwide for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire, significant increases in prize money for major tournaments, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, expanded financial support for Member Associations to strengthen football development across Africa.

A Unanimous Endorsement

The 63-year-old South African businessman faced no opposition after the nomination deadline passed in November 2024. His decision to seek re-election came after widespread backing from Member Association Presidents and key stakeholders.

“The goal remains making African football globally competitive, stabilizing finances, and investing in infrastructure,” Motsepe stated after his confirmation.

His unopposed re-election underscores the confidence in his leadership and the commitment to advancing African football to new heights.
