Embattled Speaker’s Office Calms Nerves -Downplays Reports of Assassination Attempts, Fleeing Country

MONROVIA – Speculations that embattled House Speaker Cllr, Fonati Koffa has escape assassination plot and fled the country in fear of dear life has been negated by his office.

“I can confirm that Speaker Koffa is on a private business trip out of the country and did not flee for fear of his life,” one of Koffa’s staff, Dumoe said in a social media post. “Additionally, we are aware of threats on his person and we are developing countermeasures and will keep the public informed.”

A press release issued from the office corroborates Dumoe’s assertions, stating it “acknowledges recent media reports suggesting that he has fled Liberia due to threats against his life”.

“While we recognize the seriousness of such threats, we wish to clarify that Speaker Koffa’s security team continuously assesses potential risks and implements appropriate countermeasures,” said the release which added that this is especially critical, given the complete withdrawal of state security under the Boakai administration.

The release added: “We hereby inform the public that Speaker Koffa is currently on a private business trip that was planned well in advance. This trip is in no way related to any security concerns or threats against him.”

The Speaker’s office says it remains committed to ensuring his safety and will continue to engage with the relevant authorities to address any potential security concerns. We will keep the public informed as necessary.
