MONROVIA – Dama R. Yekeson-Koffa, the wife of embattled House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and the Deputy CEO for Administration at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK Medical Center), has announced her resignation, effective immediately.

The decision, which was formally communicated in a letter to President Joseph Boakai, comes after careful consideration, with Yekeson-Koffa citing her need to dedicate full-time attention to her mother’s medical needs.
In her resignation letter, dated February 17, 2025, Yekeson-Koffa expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the prestigious role at the country’s largest referral hospital. She reflected on the significant strides the hospital has made during her tenure, highlighting numerous key achievements under her leadership.
“Under my leadership, JFK Medical Center underwent a transformation, making notable advancements that directly impacted healthcare delivery in Liberia,” Yekeson-Koffa wrote.
Some of the major achievements she highlighted include the establishment of critical healthcare units such as the Imaging Center, Dialysis Unit, Cancer Center, and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Unit.
Additionally, several medical departments earned full accreditation during her tenure, marking significant progress for the hospital.
Her leadership also saw the renovation of vital healthcare facilities, including the E.S. Grant Mental Health and Rehabilitation Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Memorial Hospital’s Medical and Surgical Wards. Yekeson-Koffa also pointed to the development of the West Africa College of Physicians and Surgeons’ accreditation and the introduction of banking services at the hospital as pivotal moments in her time at JFK.
Despite these accomplishments, Yekeson-Koffa emphasized that her decision to step down was motivated by her personal commitment to her family. “I can no longer fully commit to the demands of the position and do not wish to stagnate the inevitable growth and commitment required of the JFK Executive Management Team,” she explained.
Yekeson-Koffa concluded her resignation letter with a statement of confidence in the future of JFK Medical Center, expressing her belief that the institution will continue to thrive and lead the way in clinical healthcare delivery in Liberia. “I am confident that the medical center will continue to develop and direct the trajectory of clinical healthcare delivery in Liberia,” she wrote.
As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and clinical leader, Yekeson-Koffa’s resignation marks the end of a significant chapter at one of the country’s most important healthcare institutions.
