Musa Bility Accuses President Boakai Of Undermining Democracy And Ignoring Budget Crimes

MARGIBI COUNTY – Nimba County District #7 Representative and Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) Political Leader Musa Hassan Bility has sharply criticized President Joseph N. Boakai for what he described as a seven-month campaign to dismantle democratic governance and reduce the legislature to a mere extension of the executive branch. Speaking during a graduation ceremony for youth training circles sponsored by Senator Nathaniel McGill on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Bility accused the president of abusing state power for political retaliation rather than addressing systemic issues like illegal budget manipulation and missing public funds.

Bility condemned the arrest and detention of former House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and others linked to the recent Capitol fire, claiming that their imprisonment was politically motivated and lacked due process. He questioned why the Boakai administration has focused on imprisoning opposition figures while neglecting to investigate the alleged disappearance of millions of U.S. dollars during the passage of controversial budgets. According to Bility, those resources could have significantly improved education and basic services across the country, particularly in underserved regions.

“They’ve removed a sitting Speaker, and now they’ve arrested him. They may be plotting against you next,” Bility warned fellow opposition members. He urged political leaders outside the ruling Unity Party to resist intimidation and remain vigilant in defense of constitutional rights and institutional integrity. He called for collective action against what he characterized as a creeping authoritarianism that threatens Liberia’s fragile democracy.

Despite the politically charged atmosphere, Bility praised Senator McGill, former First Lady Clar M. Weah, and Mr. Sakou Kalasco for their ongoing efforts in youth development. As part of his own contribution, Bility announced the donation of ten computers and scholarships for one hundred students for the 2025–2026 academic year. He described the gesture as a continuation of his long-standing commitment to education, which he views as the cornerstone of real change and national progress.

Bility concluded by calling on Liberians to protect their democracy through civic engagement and resistance to injustice. He stressed that the future depends on a well-informed and empowered youth population, especially in times when governance is threatened by political overreach.
