MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai will on Monday, July 21, 2025, officially dedicate two newly constructed senior secondary schools in Gbarnga, Bong County, and Ganta, Nimba County. The move is part of the government’s continued efforts to expand access to quality education and improve learning conditions across Liberia.
The construction of these schools was spearheaded by the Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank under the Improving Results in Secondary Education (IRISE) Project. The initiative forms a key component of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen educational infrastructure, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
Built under Component 1 of the IRISE Project, the schools are designed to enhance both access and the overall learning environment at the senior secondary level. Each campus is equipped with fully furnished classrooms, science and computer laboratories, administrative offices, gender-sensitive restrooms, clean water supply, perimeter fencing, and recreational spaces. A third school in Kakata, Margibi County, is nearing completion and is expected to be dedicated later this year.
The newly established facilities are aimed at easing the burden on existing schools while promoting a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape. Particular emphasis has been placed on increasing female student enrollment and ensuring safe, supportive spaces for learning.
Admissions to the new schools will be merit-based, with top-performing students from the respective counties selected for enrollment. Similarly, teacher recruitment will be guided by stringent vetting processes to ensure that only qualified and experienced educators form the instructional staff.
The dedication of these schools by President Boakai serves as a tangible demonstration of his administration’s commitment to human capital development, a cornerstone of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. His presence at the ceremonies reaffirms the government’s resolve to invest in Liberia’s youth through improved access to education.
Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah has been instrumental in driving this transformation. Her leadership continues to be marked by an emphasis on inclusivity, quality, and long-term sustainability in the education sector. The Ministry of Education remains focused on creating equitable learning environments nationwide, particularly in areas that have historically been neglected.
