The Rule of Law Caucus has reaffirmed its stance that it will stay completely clear of any business or function carried by the Majority bloc presided over by Representative Richard Koon.
The Rule of Law Caucus reaffirmation comes as the Majority bloc under the gavel of Richard Koon commenced a Retreat at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County with some members of the ECOWAS Parliament guests including the Ghanaian SPEAKER.
The Legislative Engagement Retreat is under the theme: “Unity, Integrity and Modernization”
But Monsterrado District 16 Representative Seeboe, in a live interview on BANA FM, said the Retreat at Farmington Hotel is illegal, adding he does not know what the retreat is about and that they will not validate such a gathering.
“And let me reiterate this clarity, we have only one SPEAKER and that SPEAKER is Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, Rep. Seeboe intimated.”
The lawmaker noted the Rule of Law Caucus had resolved to stay completely clear of any function conducted illegally by self-styled Majority bloc.
Since further clarity from Associate Justice Yameh Gbeisay redefining and simplifying Ultra vires, the Rule of Law Caucus remains even firm on its position that the constitution must be respected.
“Anything done outside of the context of the law is illegal and we, the Rule of Law Caucus members cannot be a part of such gathering, Seeboe said”.
Representative Seeboe described the current approach to reconcile the House of Representatives as a mismatch, citing the suspension of some members, the latest with fire burn Representative Yekeh Kolubah, something he condemned.
Rep. Seeboe pointed out that reconciliation starts by doing the right thing, respecting the law, considering what the constitution says about the election and removal of a SPEAKER.
“Reconciliation cannot be done midst of chaos and disregard for the laws, he noted”.
Rep. Seeboe maintained reconciliation means lawmakers coming to session, if it requires SPEAKER Koffa step aside and he goes through the due process on how a SPEAKER can be questioned by members of the House of Representatives.
Commenting on the Bill of Information, Representative Seeboe said the Rule of Law Caucus looks up to the law being upheld.
Seeboe, a ranking member of the House and Chaired the Ways, Means, and Finance Committee before political uproar, hopes that the Supreme Court will be as clear as possible this time to avoid ambiguity and that the Majority bloc members will accept the High Court’s ruling.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the Bill of Information on March 14, 2025.
