Lawmakers Wear Yellow to Celebrate Arrival of Yellow Machines | News

The ruling and collaborating parties’ lawmakers in the House of Representatives showed major support for the Yellow Machines, wearing yellow attire (either European or African) and cutting their session short on Thursday during the 14th day sitting.

However, the arrival of the first 137 machines has sparked both excitement and controversy, with some questioning the procurement process and transparency.

Vice President Jeremiah Kpang Koung’s renegotiation efforts have slashed the cost of the Yellow Machines deal from $79 million to $22 million, sparking both praise and controversy. The deal’s cost reduction has raised questions about the initial price tag and whether it was inflated for personal gain.

Critics, including opposition figures and civil society, are calling for transparency and accountability, wanting to know how the massive reduction was achieved.

But the government maintained the deal is now more favorable, with Ecobank financing the $22 million cost over three years. But many Liberians remain skeptical, demanding answers before celebrating the “savings”.

Meanwhile, Oppositions such as Rep. Musa Bility and Simeon Freeman are arguing that UP is celebrating infrastructure while people struggle with basic needs like food.  Both men pointed out the contrast between the government’s priorities and the people’s hardships.
