Monrovia, Liberia – March 19, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Finance for Administration, Bill McGill Jones, has formally handed over his position at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) following his nomination, Senate confirmation, and appointment as Deputy Minister of State for Administration at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.
The transition comes amid public calls for stronger fiscal discipline, improved service delivery, and greater accountability in government spending. Observers view the reassignment as part of the Boakai administration’s broader effort to strengthen coordination and restore public confidence in key state institutions.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Hon. Jones said the MFDP faced major administrative challenges when the administration took office in February 2024, including weak internal systems, poor records management, limited digital services, and low staff morale. He noted that reforms introduced during his tenure improved personnel management, procurement oversight, and transparency through digital tools.
He highlighted staff welfare initiatives such as the reactivation of the MFDP Group Life and Medical Insurance Scheme, reopening of the ministry clinic, and the purchase of eight buses for employee transportation. Jones also reported that 986 staff members received training locally and abroad, while 277 young Liberians were recruited under the MFDP Young Professional Internship Program.
Additionally, the Ministry developed a Five‑Year Strategic Plan and approved several internal policies, including a revised Employee Handbook, Petty Cash Policy, Honorarium Policy, and Stakeholder Engagement Policy, with others still under review.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Jones urged employees to prioritize national interests and expressed confidence that the implemented reforms have laid a strong foundation for continued progress. He recommended Assistant Minister Paul Tamba Lamin to support stability within the administration department.
