The prestigious continental gathering brought together more than 2,000 delegates from across Africa and beyond, including representatives of insurance companies, reinsurance firms, investors, regulators and other key stakeholders in the insurance industry.
The 2026 AIO assembly organized by the Insurance Federation of Egypt was held under the theme, “Insurance as an Enabler of Economic Growth for All.”
The conference was focused on advancing insurance inclusion, empowering underserved communities, strengthening economic resilience and increasing insurance penetration across the African continent.
Speaking at the conclusion of the assembly, NICOL’s Acting Managing Director, Abdullah Swaray, described the event as highly rewarding and closely aligned with the Corporation’s strategic objectives.
Mr. Swaray emphasized that as Liberia’s premier state-owned insurance institution, NICOL’s participation underscored the Government of Liberia’s commitment to strengthening the insurance sector and promoting financial inclusion.
“The conference provided an important platform for NICOL to engage with industry leaders, exchange knowledge, explore emerging trends, and establish strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing the Corporation’s operational capacity and service delivery,” he said.
Mr. Swaray disclosed that one of the major outcomes of NICOL’s participation was the successful conclusion of discussions and agreements with several international reinsurance partners.
“These partnerships are expected to provide enhanced technical support and capacity-building opportunities, particularly in underwriting, risk assessment, and professional staff development,” he revealed.
According to him, the agreements will facilitate specialized training programs designed to strengthen the underwriting expertise and technical competencies of NICOL employees, enabling the Corporation to better serve its clients while adhering to international best practices in insurance operations.
The NICOL boss further disclosed that the Corporation has secured commitments from its partners to collaborate on the development of innovative microinsurance products tailored to the needs of low-income and underserved populations in Liberia.
He noted that the initiative aligns with national efforts to expand financial protection, improve access to insurance services, and increase insurance penetration nationwide.
The Acting Managing Director stressed that the partnerships established during the conference will play a critical role in supporting NICOL’s transformation agenda and its broader mission of contributing to Liberia’s economic development.
“Participation in the AIO Conference has opened new opportunities for NICOL to strengthen its technical capacity, develop innovative insurance solutions and build strategic relationships that will ultimately benefit the Liberian people,” Mr. Swaray stated.
“The focus on microinsurance development and staff capacity enhancement is particularly important as we work to expand insurance access and promote financial resilience throughout Liberia,” he continued.
Mr. Swaray reaffirmed that the National Insurance Corporation of Liberia remains committed to leveraging international partnerships and industry best practices to provide reliable insurance solutions while contributing to the country’s economic growth and sustainable development.
