WPA Sends Finance Officials to Regional IFRS Training in The Gambia

MONROVIA, Liberia — The Witness Protection Agency (WPA) of Liberia has sent two senior finance officials to Banjul, The Gambia, for a regional training program aimed at strengthening financial reporting, accountability and risk transparency.

Financial Manager and Comptroller Oliver G. Toe and Assistant Manager for Finance Satta Morris Massah are representing the Agency at the Regional Course on Modern Financial Reporting and Risk Transparency: International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Financial Soundness Indicators (FSIs). The course runs from July 6 to 10, 2026.

The week-long program is organized by the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), based in Lagos, Nigeria. It brings together finance and public sector professionals from across West Africa to build technical skills in modern financial reporting, IFRS, FSIs and the use of internationally recognized tools for assessing institutional performance, fiscal accountability and risk exposure.

According to the WPA, the participation of its finance staff forms part of a broader effort to improve the Agency’s financial governance. The Agency said the training is expected to strengthen financial reporting, reinforce internal controls, promote fiscal probity and support more efficient management of public resources.

The Agency said sound financial management is essential to fulfilling its statutory mandate to protect witnesses, victims and whistleblowers within Liberia and beyond its borders. It noted that continued capacity building is necessary to ensure that public resources entrusted to the institution are managed with integrity, accountability and transparency.

The WPA also said its participation in the regional course reflects the Government of Liberia’s wider commitment to aligning public financial management practices with international standards. The Agency linked the effort to Liberia’s obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and other treaties and conventions to which the country is a State Party.

As the national body responsible for administering Liberia’s witness protection program, the WPA said it remains committed to institutional excellence, continuous professional development, good governance and adherence to international best practices.-Press release
