MONROVIA — In a bid to quell growing internal friction and set the record straight, Nimba County Senator Samuel G. Kogar has issued a strong rallying cry for unity within the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), urging partisans to reject divisive interpretations of his recent public statements.
Addressing a passionate crowd of young partisans at the MDR National Youth Congress, Senator Kogar emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the party’s core democratic values and remaining steadfast in its commitment to national peace.
The controversy stems from remarks in which Senator Kogar asserted that the MDR must never be characterized or operate as a “rebel transition party.” While the phrase initially sparked intense debate and varied interpretations among the rank and file, party leaders and senior partisans have quickly moved to clarify the context of his message.
Clarifying the Senator’s intent, party representatives insisted that his comments were in no way meant to criticize, undermine, or fracture the MDR. Instead, they noted, Senator Kogar was delivering a forward-looking charge urging the membership to decisively transcend the lingering shadows of Liberia’s civil conflict, reinforce internal solidarity, and focus on constructing a modernized, robust democratic institution.
“The Senator’s message was rooted entirely in reconciliation, unity, and progress,” stated key party members who came forward to address the misunderstanding. They called on all partisans across the country to view the remarks through a constructive lens, urging the youth wing and the broader executive body to avoid unnecessary distractions.
As the MDR positions itself for future political engagements, party executives maintain that unity remains their greatest asset.
