GBARNGA, Bong County, July 31, 2026 – Officers of Police Depot One in Gbarnga have arrested five individuals for allegedly stealing 17 chickens from the Gbokuinema Rich Farm poultry project and attempting to sell them in Gbarnga. The suspects were arrested on Wednesday and are currently in police custody awaiting their expected appearance in court.
Commander Morhafee Jabateh of Police Depot One confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects allegedly removed the chickens from the poultry farm and transported them to Gbarnga with the intent to sell them. He disclosed that police launched an investigation following reports of the theft, leading to the apprehension of the five suspects.
According to Commander Jabateh, the alleged theft highlights growing concerns among local business owners and agricultural investors about the protection of their investments. Poultry farming remains an important source of livelihood and contributes to food security in many communities across Bong County and Liberia at large.
He noted that the suspects are spending their first night in police custody and are expected to be forwarded to court to face prosecution in keeping with Liberian law. Police have assured the public that investigations into the matter are continuing.
The arrest underscores the Liberia National Police’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and private investments while ensuring that individuals accused of criminal offenses are afforded due process under the law.
