MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Liberian political commentator and activist Grace R. Guar has commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for ordering the dismissal, suspension and investigation of several government and law enforcement officials allegedly linked to ongoing investigations into major cocaine trafficking cases, describing the decision as the kind of decisive leadership Liberia needs to strengthen accountability and restore public confidence.
In a statement issued Friday, July 31, 2026, Guar said President Boakai’s decision to take immediate action against officials connected to the narcotics investigations demonstrates a commitment to the rule of law and the principle that public office must be accompanied by integrity and accountability.
“Your decisive leadership in ordering the immediate dismissal, suspension, and investigation of several government and law enforcement officials involved in narcotics trafficking is exactly what Liberia needs,” Guar said.
She specifically welcomed the actions involving Mark Egon Kuiah, Johnny Bolar Dean and Patrick Doe, as well as the suspension and investigation of Patrick Komasu.
Guar said the removal and investigation of officials allegedly implicated in cases involving large quantities of cocaine intercepted at Roberts International Airport and elsewhere send an important message about the government’s position on corruption and criminal conduct.
According to her, the involvement of high-ranking personnel from multiple government and security institutions makes the President’s response particularly significant because it demonstrates that alleged misconduct within state institutions will not automatically shield individuals from accountability.
“The removal of those implicated in the seizure of large quantities of cocaine at Roberts International Airport, involving high-ranking officials across multiple agencies, underscores your administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and criminal conduct,” Guar said.
She argued that decisive action against officials suspected of wrongdoing could help strengthen public confidence in government institutions and reinforce national security at a time when Liberia is confronting an unprecedented drug trafficking investigation.
Guar further commended what she described as the President’s firm and transparent approach to governance, while urging him to maintain the same level of determination as the investigations continue.
She said Liberia needs sustained leadership capable of confronting criminal networks and strengthening institutions rather than allowing political connections or official positions to shield individuals accused of wrongdoing.
“We commend your firm and transparent approach to governance and expect you to continue leading with the same determination to rid Liberia of criminal elements,” she said.
Guar also expressed personal support for the President, saying she believes his administration is attempting to establish a new trajectory for the country.
“If you continue on this path, Mr. President, you will have my steadfast support even at 100 years old,” she said. “Liberia must reach its full potential and I think you are trying your best to set the trajectory. Keep pushing Sir.”
Her comments come as the government faces growing scrutiny over the scale of Liberia’s recent cocaine seizures and allegations that individuals within government and security institutions may have been connected to the movement of narcotics.
The Joint Security on Thursday supervised the destruction of 4,208.6 kilograms of cocaine, comprising 3,971 kilograms seized in Duazon, Margibi County, and 237.6 kilograms intercepted at Roberts International Airport.
The combined consignments were estimated by security officials to be worth more than US$336 million.
The unprecedented seizures have triggered a broader investigation into an alleged transnational trafficking network, with several suspects already charged or under investigation.
President Boakai’s latest decisions have therefore placed accountability at the center of the government’s response, while also creating pressure for investigators and prosecutors to establish the specific roles allegedly played by each individual and ensure that any criminal cases are supported by credible evidence and due process.
For Guar, however, the significance of the President’s actions extends beyond the current cocaine investigation. She sees the measures as an opportunity to strengthen Liberia’s institutions, restore public confidence and demonstrate that government positions cannot be used as protection from accountability.
