MONROVIA, Liberia, August 11, 2026 – The Government of Liberia is convening a high-level National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting today to review progress and accelerate implementation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), with emphasis on translating government priorities into measurable outcomes for citizens.
The meeting, scheduled for the Monrovia City Hall, is being held under the theme: “Consolidating AAID Gains: Accelerating Implementation into Measurable and People-Centered Outcomes.”
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), the gathering will assess progress made during the first year of AAID implementation, identify challenges and provide strategic direction for national development priorities in 2026 and 2027.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. chairs the National Steering Committee, with the United Nations Resident Coordinator serving as deputy chairperson.
The NSC serves as the central oversight and strategic coordination body for the AAID and comprises Cabinet ministers, ministries, agencies and commissions, development partners, civil society organizations, private-sector actors and representatives of the Liberian diaspora.
The meeting follows the completion of the first year of AAID implementation in 2025. The Government has prepared a Year One Progress Report assessing achievements, implementation challenges and lessons learned across priority sectors.
MFDP said progress reports covering the first and second quarters of 2026 are also being finalized as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability and results-based development.
The meeting comes amid what the Government describes as evolving domestic and international challenges, including rising fuel prices, macroeconomic uncertainty and changes in development financing.
Against that backdrop, officials say the gathering will provide an opportunity to assess implementation gaps and recalibrate national development priorities for the remainder of 2026 and beyond.
The Steering Committee is expected to review progress across sectors, identify achievements and challenges, and provide strategic guidance for adjusting priorities in response to emerging economic and development conditions.
It will also provide policy direction on development financing and review and endorse national development priorities for 2027.
Among the major expected outcomes is the approval of the AAID Year One Implementation Status Report.
The committee is also expected to provide policy guidance for the development of an integrated AAID financing framework and a National Development Cooperation Policy.
A High-Level Communiqué outlining strategic priorities, coordination mechanisms and commitments for the 2026–2027 period is also expected to be adopted.
According to MFDP, the meeting will use a participatory, evidence-based and results-driven approach, with key documents circulated to participants to guide deliberations.
These include the Year One Progress Report, draft performance updates for the first and second quarters of 2026, sector summaries and Liberia’s Voluntary National Review.
High-level technical presentations and plenary discussions will form part of the meeting, while the AAID Coordination Team at MFDP, working with the Cabinet Secretariat, will document the proceedings and establish follow-up mechanisms to track implementation.
The ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development is the Boakai administration’s national development framework, focusing on Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation and Tourism as key pillars of the Government’s development program.
