Monrovia — There was still no ruling Thursday on a motion for compassionate leave filed on behalf of former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, as the presiding judge of Criminal Court “C” did not appear in court to hear or deliver a decision on the matter.
The ruling had been scheduled for Thursday, September 3, at Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.
Taylor’s defense lawyers arrived at the courthouse and remained in the courtroom from approximately 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., awaiting the judge.
Among the attorneys present were Cllr. Cabina Ja’neh, Cllr. Finley Kangar and Cllr. Lavala Superwood.
Prosecutors were also seen at the court earlier in the day but reportedly left after a few minutes, while Taylor’s defense team remained behind in anticipation of the judge’s appearance.
The lawyers were later seen leaving the courthouse, visibly frustrated, after the judge had not appeared and no ruling had been announced.
The delay leaves unresolved Taylor’s request for compassionate leave, which her lawyers have filed amid concerns about her health and the need for medical treatment.
Taylor remains in detention while facing serious criminal allegations brought against her by the Liberian Government.
Her defense team has maintained that her health situation warrants consideration of compassionate leave and access to appropriate medical care.
The court’s failure to issue a ruling Thursday means Taylor’s immediate legal and medical status remains unchanged, pending further action by the court.
