U.S. Reaffirms Support for Liberia’s Justice Sector

MONROVIA, September 22, 2026 — U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Joe Zadrozny has reaffirmed Washington’s support for Liberia’s justice sector during talks with newly appointed Acting Minister of Justice and Attorney General Cllr. Betty M. Lamin-Blamo.

The meeting focused on continued U.S.-Liberia cooperation on justice, accountability and the rule of law, according to the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia.

“The United States is proud to stand with Liberia as it strengthens its own justice institutions — a process led by Liberians, for Liberians,” the Embassy said.

During the discussions, Zadrozny emphasized the importance of accountability, fairness and transparency in the administration of justice.

According to the Embassy, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to a justice system in which citizens are held equally accountable under the law, regardless of their positions or affiliations, and where cases are handled fairly and transparently.

The Embassy said a strong and impartial justice sector remains important to the U.S.-Liberia partnership and Liberia’s democratic development.

“The United States looks forward to continued cooperation with the Ministry of Justice in support of these shared objectives,” the Embassy added.

The meeting comes shortly after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai appointed Lamin-Blamo to head the Ministry of Justice following a change in the ministry’s leadership.

President Boakai initially appointed Lamin-Blamo as Minister of Justice and Attorney General on September 2. She was subsequently appointed Acting Minister, effective September 11, pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate following the Legislature’s return in October.

Lamin-Blamo succeeded Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, who was reassigned after serving as Justice Minister and Attorney General.

The engagement signals continued U.S. cooperation with Liberia’s justice authorities as the government seeks to strengthen accountability, transparency and the rule of law.
