GBARNGA, Bong County, September 25, 2026: Residents of Gbarnga-Siaquelleh in Electoral District Four, Bong County, are calling on county and health authorities to open a health facility in their community that they say has remained unused years after construction began.
According to residents, construction of the facility began in 2017 under the leadership of former District Four Representative Lester Paye, but the building has yet to be dedicated and opened to the public.
Residents said the prolonged closure has forced them to travel to Garmue Town and other communities to seek medical treatment despite having a health facility in their own community.
They said the situation poses particular difficulties for pregnant women, elderly residents and others who require regular medical attention but may lack reliable transportation.
Residents also expressed concern about the deteriorating surroundings of the facility, which they said have become overgrown with grass because the building remains unused.
They said community members have periodically cleaned the premises but are increasingly frustrated by the delay in putting the facility into operation.
The residents are therefore appealing to Bong County authorities and health officials to assess the facility, address any outstanding work or requirements and ensure that it is opened to provide healthcare services to Gbarnga-Siaquelleh and surrounding communities.
