MONROVIA, October 2, 2026 — Motorists using Tubman Boulevard have been advised to expect intermittent traffic disruptions from October through December as large precast concrete girders are transported for construction of the China-aid overpass bridges.
The girders will be transported by convoy from the contractor’s campsite near the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex to construction sites along the eastern and western sections of the overpass project.
Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sanoe disclosed the planned movement Thursday, October 1, during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
He said the Ministry of Public Works, in coordination with the Liberia National Police, will supervise the exercise to ensure safety and minimize traffic disruptions.
Motorists are being urged to remain patient, follow police instructions and exercise caution when approaching the convoys and construction zones.
According to Sanoe, the movement of the girders is necessary to keep construction on schedule and avoid delays.
The overpass project stems from a Liberia-China implementation agreement signed in June 2021, following an exchange of letters between the two governments in 2019.
The overpasses are intended to ease traffic congestion and improve vehicle movement along Tubman Boulevard by allowing traffic to flow above major intersections.
