ArcelorMittal Demands Retraction

BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County, October 7, 2026 — ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has rejected a video published by Verity News as inaccurate, saying it portrayed individuals in the footage as company employees, and has called for the publication to be removed and corrected.

The video, published on Facebook under the caption, “Dignity or Slavery?”, reportedly raised concerns about conditions involving people it identified as AML employees.

But in a statement issued Monday, ArcelorMittal Liberia disputed the claim, saying the individuals featured in the video are not its employees.

“This claim is incorrect, and the individuals featured in the video are not employees of ArcelorMittal Liberia,” the company said.

AML also expressed concern that it was not contacted for comment or verification before the video was published, arguing that this resulted in what it described as inaccurate information about its employee facilities and services.

The company said it operates modern facilities in Buchanan and Yekepa and provides catering services to employees as part of its commitment to their welfare, health and wellbeing.

AML called on Verity News to remove the publication and issue a public correction, saying the action would ensure that the facts are accurately represented.

The company maintained that it takes employee welfare seriously and remains committed to providing safe and appropriate working and living conditions across its operations, including access to dining and other welfare facilities.

AML also urged the public to rely on verified information and said it remains available to provide information about its operations and workforce practices.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, employee wellbeing and responsible engagement with stakeholders and the media.
