Liberian Journalists Begin Two-Week Media Training in China

MONROVIA, October 15, 2026 – A delegation of Liberian journalists has begun a two-week intensive media training program in Beijing, China, aimed at strengthening professional skills, promoting media cooperation and enhancing communication between the two countries.

The training, organized by the Research and Training Institute of China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), officially opened on Wednesday, October 14, and runs through October 27, 2026.

The journalists departed Monrovia on October 12 aboard Ethiopian Airlines and arrived in Beijing the following day.

The program, titled “Seminar on Media Communication Capability,” is being conducted in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Liberia as part of ongoing media and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the institute’s Chief Editor, Gao Xi, welcomed the Liberian delegation and encouraged participants to take advantage of the training opportunities.

He expressed hope that the seminar would promote mutual learning between participants and instructors, enabling journalists to apply the knowledge acquired in their professional work.

The training covers constructive journalism, news reporting practices, media innovation, digital communication, news literacy and strategies for combating disinformation.

Participants will also examine China’s media development, international communication, public diplomacy and approaches to promoting its culture and national image.

The opening session featured presentations on China’s radio and television industry, international media cooperation and President Xi Jinping’s cultural development framework.

As part of the program, participants are expected to visit Beijing’s National Stadium and National Aquatics Center before traveling to Anji County in Zhejiang Province for field studies.

The visits will include Yucun Village, known for its association with China’s green development philosophy, as well as bamboo innovation facilities, digital governance centers and cultural sites.

Organizers say the field visits will expose participants to China’s experiences in technological innovation, environmental sustainability and rural development.

The latest seminar follows similar training initiatives for Liberian journalists in China.

In 2023, 25 Liberian journalists participated in a seminar for media think tanks and senior scholars in Beijing, while another 30 attended a media communication capacity-building program in Changsha, Hunan Province, in 2025.

According to the institute, its international training programs have operated since 2005 in collaboration with several Chinese government institutions.

By the end of 2024, the institute reported training 6,740 government officials, media managers, editors, journalists and technical professionals from 163 developing countries and regions.

The institute conducts training in several languages, including English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese.

The ongoing seminar is expected to strengthen the professional capacity of participating Liberian journalists while expanding media exchanges and cooperation between Liberia and China.
