Senator Cyrus Calls For Cancellation Of Transport Management Contract Over Revenue Concerns

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Senator Momo Cyrus, Chair of the Senate Committee on Defense, Security and Veteran Affairs, has called for a review or cancellation of the contract awarded to the Liberia Transport Traffic Management Company, citing concerns over the government’s share of revenue generated under the agreement.

Speaking before the Senate plenary on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Senator Cyrus reportedly said the government had not received its expected share of revenue collected by the company, despite an arrangement under which the state was entitled to 30 percent.

The senator questioned the financial benefits of the agreement, claiming that government revenue from vehicle registration and related services had declined significantly under the current arrangement.

According to Cyrus, the government previously generated nearly US$250 million from vehicle registration and related services but now collects less than US$4 million under the existing system.

He argued that the reported figures raise serious questions about the contract’s financial terms, the distribution of revenue, and the extent to which the arrangement benefits the government and the Liberian people.

Cyrus warned that he would not support any government, including the current administration, if the contract were not reviewed or canceled, signaling his opposition to the continuation of an arrangement he believes requires urgent reconsideration.

The senator’s concerns place renewed attention on the government’s management of contracts involving public revenue and the mechanisms used to ensure that companies operating such arrangements meet their financial obligations.

If the government is entitled to 30 percent of the revenue collected under the contract, questions remain about the total amount generated by the company, the payments made to the state, and the reasons for the reported discrepancy.

The government and the company have yet to provide a response in the information available for this report. Independent verification of the revenue figures and the alleged failure to transfer the government’s share would be necessary to establish the full circumstances surrounding the agreement.

The call for a review or cancellation comes amid broader questions about transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, with the Senate now facing scrutiny over how the concerns will be addressed and whether the relevant authorities will be required to account for the contract’s financial performance.
