The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s health by providing 50 breast cancer screening opportunities for female employees in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The initiative featured an awareness march within the Company’s premises, followed by an educational session facilitated by Wellness Clinical Medical Center. The screening coupons will enable participating employees to access screening services at Jahmale Medical Solutions.
Breast cancer remains a major health concern in Liberia and around the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer globally in 2022, while about 670,000 died from the disease. In Liberia, breast and cervical cancers contribute significantly to the country’s cancer burden, with limited access to early detection and specialized treatment presenting major challenges.
Speaking on behalf of Senior Management, Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Hon. Jacob Julius Smith, reaffirmed LPRC’s commitment to supporting the fight against breast cancer. He also emphasized the need to establish a national foundation to mobilize resources and strengthen efforts to combat the disease.
Under the leadership of Managing Director Hon. Amos B. Tweh, the provision of these 50 screening opportunities demonstrates LPRC’s commitment to employee welfare, women’s health, and the promotion of preventive healthcare.
Through this initiative, LPRC joins the national and global call for increased awareness, regular screening, early detection, and collective action to save lives.
