… From Sidewalk to Success
From repairing mobile phones on the sidewalk around the World Trade Center on Gurley Street in Monrovia to establishing a thriving cellphone business, the Chief Executive Officer of PEDRO GSM, Quomini A. David, is inspiring young Liberians with a story of determination, perseverance, and entrepreneurial success.
David’s journey reflects the power of vision, hard work, and faith in God, demonstrating how humble beginnings can become the foundation for a promising business future.
Reflecting on his early struggles, David disclosed that he started his entrepreneurial journey with virtually nothing, repairing mobile phones for as little as L$500. Despite limited resources and difficult circumstances, he remained committed to building a better future for himself.
According to him, spending several years repairing phones along the sidewalk eventually motivated him to reconsider his future and explore opportunities beyond his immediate surroundings. That decision marked a major turning point in his life and business ambitions.
Driven by his desire to expand his knowledge and improve his business prospects, David traveled to Dubai for business exposure. Although his first trip did not yield the expected results, he said the experience provided valuable lessons that strengthened his determination to succeed.
“On my second trip, I began to understand the experience better, and by the grace of God, we have come this far,” David said, emphasizing the importance of patience, persistence, and learning from setbacks.
The PEDRO GSM CEO also disclosed that he was previously a senior student at Starz University before concentrating more heavily on his business activities. However, he expressed his intention to resume his studies this semester, underscoring his belief in the importance of education alongside entrepreneurship.
David used his personal experience to encourage young Liberians to develop clear goals, remain focused, and take responsibility for their future. He stressed that difficult circumstances should not prevent individuals from pursuing their ambitions.
“I am telling my friends that life depends on yourself. If I can make it, you can also make it. Just remain focused and determined about your future,” he encouraged.
He further explained that his entrepreneurial journey has made him a source of inspiration and guidance for some of his friends, who now seek his advice on business-related matters. David acknowledged that entrepreneurship requires continuous learning, humility, and the willingness to benefit from the experiences of others.
Beyond its commercial activities, PEDRO GSM, according to David, is committed to helping students and young people access mobile phones and technology, which have become increasingly important for education, communication, and personal development.
The company offers different categories of mobile phones, including iPhones, to meet the varying needs of customers. David said the business aims to serve customers while contributing to the growing demand for technology in Liberia.
Meanwhile, some of David’s friends and associates have expressed appreciation for his entrepreneurial vision, describing his establishment of a cellphone store as an encouraging example for young people seeking to build businesses in Liberia.
His story serves as a reminder that entrepreneurship is not always determined by one’s starting point, but by the willingness to learn, remain focused, and pursue opportunities despite challenges.
Through PEDRO GSM, Quomini A. David continues to promote a message of self-reliance, ambition, and perseverance, encouraging young Liberians to believe in their potential and work toward building a successful future.
