MONROVIA, Liberia, November 4, 2026: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has outlined five strategic priorities to guide Liberia’s diplomatic engagements as the country prepares to assume the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Tuesday, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah said the priorities would focus on international peace and security, regional cooperation and institutional reforms.
According to Piah, the first priority is Women, Peace and Security, aimed at promoting women’s meaningful participation and leadership in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and decision-making.
The second focuses on Youth, Peace and Security, emphasizing greater involvement of young people in peacebuilding initiatives and international security discussions.
The third priority addresses climate change, conflict and natural resources, particularly the impact of climate-related challenges and resource governance on global peace and stability.
Piah said the fourth priority centers on regional and subregional security, with particular attention to strengthening cooperation within the Mano River Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address emerging security threats.
The fifth priority focuses on United Nations Security Council reform, including efforts to make the Council more representative, responsive and effective while strengthening UN peacekeeping operations.
The Information Minister said the five priorities reflect Liberia’s commitment to multilateral cooperation, conflict prevention and sustainable international peace.
The agenda is expected to guide Liberia’s diplomatic engagements during its month-long presidency of the Security Council.
