MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Alexander B. Cummings, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), will serve as the keynote speaker at the Congress for Democratic Change’s (CDC) 22nd anniversary and Militant Month celebration. Held in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, the event is being heavily cast by the party leadership as a critical national forum on the country’s democratic future.
The formal invitation, signed by CDC National Chairman Atty. Janga A. Kowo and dated June 15, requests Cummings to deliver the primary address on Saturday, June 27. This keynote speech marks the grand finale of the five-day celebration, which spans from June 23 to June 27 under the rallying theme: “ZWEDRU RISES: 2029 VICTORY IS THE FINAL DESTINATION.”
Cummings is expected to share the platform with a prominent cross-section of Liberia’s leading opposition figures. Among the high-profile leaders slated to attend are Musa H. Bility of the Citizens’ Movement for Change, businessman and politician Cllr. Kabineh Ja’neh, and Benoni Urey. They will join a broad assembly of national legislators, former public officials, civil society organizations, and traditional authorities.
In its official communication, the CDC emphasized that this year’s anniversary has been intentionally redesigned. Shifting away from the high-energy political rallies that have typically marked its previous milestones, the party has reframed the program as a comprehensive national renewal and policy dialogue. The re-imagined event aims to bring together political figures, members of the international diplomatic corps, youth and women’s leaders, and diverse democratic stakeholders to foster genuine institutional reflection and public accountability.
This strategic shift comes at a time when the CDC observes growing public unease regarding national governance, persistent economic hardships, and a notable decline in public confidence toward state institutions. The party noted that opposition leaders now carry a shared responsibility to engage both one another and the wider Liberian populace in rigorous, honest discussions about the country’s true trajectory.
“Liberia is at a critical crossroads demanding urgent, honest dialogue and decisive engagement from all democratic forces.”
The party leadership expressed to Cummings that his presence on the platform would significantly bolster the gathering’s credibility and national weight, while simultaneously advancing essential opposition solidarity and building a cohesive, clear vision for Liberia’s path forward
