GREATER NOIDA, India, July 29, 2026 — Grand Kru County Senator and Chairperson of the University of Liberia Board of Trustees, Nyumene T. H. Bartekwa, has called on Liberian students pursuing higher education in India to uphold discipline, integrity, and respect for the law while preparing to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s development.
Addressing Liberian students studying at Sharda University and other institutions across India during Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration, Bartekwa described education as one of the most powerful tools for national transformation.
He urged the students to remain committed to their academic pursuits, respect India’s laws and cultural traditions, embrace diversity, and build relationships that strengthen cooperation between Liberia and India.
According to the senator, the knowledge, skills, and international exposure gained abroad should ultimately be used to advance Liberia through responsible leadership, innovation, professional excellence, and public service.
“The education you are receiving represents an investment in Liberia’s future,” Bartekwa said. “Your success abroad must become part of Liberia’s success at home. I call on all of you to regard yourselves as ambassadors of Liberia. Uphold excellence, discipline, and integrity, and remember that patriotism does not stop at Liberia’s borders. Be prepared to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s development upon the completion of your studies.”
Bartekwa reaffirmed the University of Liberia’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, research, innovation, ethical leadership, and producing graduates capable of addressing national and global challenges.
He said the university’s mission extends beyond awarding academic qualifications and aims to develop graduates whose competence, integrity, and commitment to public service will contribute to Liberia’s social and economic advancement.
The senator also praised the longstanding relationship between Liberia and India, describing it as a growing partnership strengthened through higher education, technical cooperation, healthcare, commerce, scholarships, professional training, and cultural exchange.
Bartekwa made the remarks while serving as guest speaker at Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebration at Sharda University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The event brought together officials of Sharda University, members of the Liberian student community in India, representatives of the University of Liberia, and invited guests to commemorate Liberia’s independence and reaffirm the expanding educational partnership between Liberia and India.
