Bong County Technical College is set to confer undergraduate degrees on one hundred twenty-three (123) students at its fourth commencement convocation on July 19, 2025, in Gbarnga.
According to the graduation data released by the Office of the Dean of Admissions, Records, and Registration, Ebee Kollie, the graduating class is drawn from six academic departments, which include: Health Sciences, Agriculture Technology, Education, Information Technology/Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mining Engineering.
The Department of Health Sciences will graduate 40 students, including 18 females and 22 males. Another 40 students will graduate from the Department of Agriculture Technology, comprising 21 females and 19 males. The Education Department, which includes both primary and secondary education, will present 21 graduates—3 females and 18 males.
Additionally, seven students from the Information Technology/Computer Engineering Department will receive degrees, including 2 females and 5 males.
The Engineering Department will produce 15 graduates: 7 in Mining Engineering, all males, and 8 in Civil Engineering, comprising 1 female and 7 males.
Moreover, appearing as a guest on a radio simulcast over the weekend in Gbarnga, Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, President of Bong County Technical College, announced that the commencement speaker for this year’s ceremony will be His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia.
Dr. Taikerweyah emphasized the importance of the President’s presence, noting that it indicates national recognition of the college’s efforts to rise from past challenges and make its mark among institutions of higher learning in Liberia.
He explained that BCTC had struggled for public attention in previous years, particularly after suffering a temporary closure for about three academic semesters in early 2023.
However, through teamwork and renewed energy, the college leadership extended an invitation to President Boakai to serve as the convocation speaker as a way of establishing a new image for the institution.
He acknowledged the foundation laid by previous presidents of the College, including Dr. John Flomo, Dr. Charles Mulbah, and Dr. Roland Massaquoi.
Dr. Taikerweyah said their leadership, along with the dedication of past and present staff, has helped build the foundation upon which the institution stands today.
The graduation ceremony will take place at the Gbarnga Administration Building and is expected to attract high-profile government officials, parents, guardians, students, alumni, and citizens from across Liberia.
Dr. Taikerweyah stressed that, as the only public higher learning institution in Bong County, BCTC is determined to showcase its relevance and academic excellence to the rest of the World.
Established in 2010 as a public institution, Bong County Technical College was created to respond to the growing demand for skilled professionals in Liberia. The college offers degree programs in Nursing, Agriculture Technology, Civil and Mining Engineering, Information Technology, and Education.
