MONROVIA – In a major step toward improving Liberia’s emergency response capabilities, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, commissioned a new fleet of firefighting equipment for the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) at a ceremony held on the grounds of the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.
The newly acquired assets include six modern fire trucks, three water tankers, two operational jeeps, and ten motorcycles designed for rapid response and community outreach. The President hailed the commissioning as a clear sign of his administration’s commitment to national safety and public service delivery, especially under the framework of the ARREST Agenda.
“These equipment will not sit in garages. They are tools of service, tools that represent our duty to protect every Liberian community from the devastating impact of fire outbreaks,” President Boakai declared. “This Government is determined to build a Liberia where citizens feel safe, and institutions are empowered to deliver.”
President Boakai urged the Liberia National Fire Service to remain professional and diligent in using the equipment for the public good. He also called on Liberians to cooperate with fire safety protocols and take fire prevention seriously.
Fire Service Director Col. G. Wasuwah Barvoul, Sr., who received the equipment on behalf of the LNFS, described the moment as historic. He noted that the tools provided would significantly enhance the agency’s ability to respond to emergencies with greater speed and reach.
“With these new trucks, water carriers, jeeps, and motorcycles, we can now respond faster, reach remote areas, and save more lives,” said Col. Barvoul. “For too long, we’ve worked with limited resources. Today’s commissioning is not just about vehicles, it is about restoring confidence in our ability to protect this nation.”
He assured the public that the fleet would be deployed strategically across Liberia, particularly in fire-prone and underserved communities. According to him, trained personnel are already prepared to operate the new equipment, ensuring that the investment yields immediate and lasting benefits.
The initiative represents a significant boost for a sector long plagued by resource constraints. With Liberia’s urbanization on the rise and fire incidents becoming increasingly frequent, the enhancement of the national fire service comes as a timely intervention.
