Monrovia, September 9, 2025: Reaffirming his country’s One-China policy, President Boakai expressed Liberia’s unwavering respect for the One-China Policy, emphasizing that international partnerships must be grounded in peace, mutual respect, and shared prosperity.

The Liberian leader made the remarks during the National Day Reception held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo Town. The event commemorated the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Speaking before a distinguished audience that included members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and invited guests, President Boakai conveyed fraternal goodwill to the Chinese government and people.

“On this important occasion, I extend to President Xi Jinping and the people of China our best wishes for continued peace and progress,” President Boakai stated.

He lauded the resilience and achievements of the Chinese people, describing the 76th anniversary of the nation’s founding as a “historic milestone.” The President also acknowledged the profound significance of China’s 80th anniversary of its wartime victory.

This commemoration reminds us of the immense sacrifices made to uphold freedom and peace, and of the collective responsibility of nations, large and small, to safeguard these values for all humanity,” he told the gathering.

Boakai emphasized that Liberia’s foreign policy continues to be shaped by principles of peace, multilateralism, and mutual respect, whether in its ties with China or with all international partners.

“Partnerships, whether with China or all international allies, must serve the common goal of a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous world,” he said.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on February 17, 1977, Liberia and China have maintained a strong and evolving partnership. From infrastructure and healthcare to education and other key sectors, both countries have shared mutual benefits through continuous collaboration.

In September 2025, Liberia and China took their bilateral relations to new heights by elevating ties to a strategic partnership, reflecting their growing cooperation and shared long-term vision.

President Boakai concluded by expressing hope for the future of both nations:

“May the friendship between Liberia and China continue to flourish in the spirit of cooperation and shared destiny. Thank you. God bless Liberia and the People’s Republic of China.” -Edited by Othello B. Garblah.
