MONROVIA, September 30, 2026 — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called for the establishment of a credible and regularly updated national diaspora database aimed at connecting Liberians abroad with investment opportunities, institutions and development needs at home.
The President made the proposal during the annual Liberian Diaspora Conference in the United States, where he urged Liberians abroad to move beyond dialogue and establish practical partnerships that can contribute to national development.
Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel Sanoe disclosed details of the President’s proposal Tuesday, September 29, during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing in Monrovia.
According to Sanoe, Boakai wants the proposed information system to identify the professional skills and expertise of Liberians abroad while also providing information on investment opportunities, national development needs and institutions seeking partnerships.
The system would also seek to strengthen connections between Liberia and younger generations of Liberians living abroad who want greater engagement with the country and their heritage.
Sanoe said the President described the diaspora as an integral part of the Liberian nation and a critical partner in advancing the country’s development agenda.
Boakai also encouraged Liberian professionals abroad—including doctors, educators, engineers, technology professionals and entrepreneurs—to establish practical partnerships with institutions and communities in Liberia.
According to Sanoe, the President highlighted steps his administration has taken to strengthen diaspora engagement, including increased institutional support for the Office of Diaspora Affairs through the national budget.
He also referenced efforts to support the establishment of a National Congress and work toward developing a more durable legal and institutional framework for diaspora participation.
The President urged Liberians abroad to translate discussions at diaspora conferences into concrete initiatives and partnerships capable of producing measurable results at home.
The proposed database forms part of the administration’s broader effort to strengthen institutional links with Liberians abroad and develop mechanisms for mobilizing diaspora expertise, investment and other resources for national development.
The annual diaspora conference brings together government officials, diaspora organizations, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss ways Liberians living abroad can contribute more directly to the country’s development.
