‘Boost For Liberia’s Revenue’…Energy Management Expert Hails NIR Project

As the National Identification Registry (NIR) embarks on enrolling two million Liberian citizens into the National Biometric Data System, a Liberian emerging Project Management Expert, Fredee Konway, at the School of Overseas, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics in the People’s Republic of China has termed the initiative as a boost for the country’s revenue generation and other sectors of government.

The National Biometric Data System is a part of the World Bank-funded US$30 million under the Governance Reform and Accountability Transformation (GREAT) project.

GREAT project seeks to enhance digital access to selected public services, raise tax revenue and improve the openness of accountability institutions in Liberia with NIR being among government agencies benefiting entities for the project implementation.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Mr. Konway described the enrollment as a significant move by the NIR Executive Director, Andrew Peters to ensure that multiple issues confronting the country are resolved through what he termed as population accountability.

The statement noted that the NIR Executive Director, Andrew Peters, has made significant gains at the entity since his ascendency through what is being described as a visionary leader with his unwavering dedication to national development has made NIR one of the most functional institutions of government.

According to Mr. Konway, through the work of the NIR under the leadership of Honorable Andrew Peters, Liberia is advancing toward a modern, digitized governance system that promotes efficiency, accountability, and progress which are enshrined in the pillars of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s commitment to the people of Liberia.

“Good governance and transparency serve as the backbone of the ARREST Agenda, and this biometric enrollment project is a critical tool in ensuring accountability, efficiency, and trust under the UP led government,” he stated.

The Student of Project Management at the School of Overseas, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics in the People’s Republic of China asserted that by providing secure and verifiable identities for two million citizens, it will enhance public service deliver, ensuring social welfare programs, improved electoral transparency—ensuring a credible voter roll and democratic participation.

He stated that it will strengthen national security by reducing identity fraud and illegal activities, and supporting economic inclusion will give more Liberians access to financial services and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Konway said the World Bank funded US$30 million under the Governance Reform and Accountability Transformation (GREAT) Project is not just a project; but a national milestone that aligns with the ARREST Agenda of the UP-led Government under President Boakai government.
