ABUJA, Nigeria, October 7, 2026 — Liberian lawyer Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine has formally taken the oath of office as a judge of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, pledging to exercise her judicial responsibilities “honorably, faithfully, impartially and conscientiously.”

Brumskine, daughter of the late Liberty Party founder Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, was sworn in Tuesday in Abuja alongside four other newly appointed judges for a four-year, non-renewable term.

The other judges are Désiré Henri Aihou of Benin, Justice Awa Bah of The Gambia, Henrietta Uzoamaka Didigu of Nigeria and Dr. Yaouza Ouro-Sama of Togo.

The judges were appointed for the Court’s 2026–2030 statutory period following recommendations from the 96th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers and approval by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

Taking the oath, Brumskine pledged to faithfully discharge her responsibilities as a member of the regional court.

“I, Charlyne M. Brumskine, solemnly swear that I will perform my duties and exercise my powers as a Member of the Economic Community of West African States Community Court of Justice honorably, faithfully, impartially and conscientiously,” she declared.

Brumskine brings more than two decades of legal experience spanning human rights, international trade, corporate and commercial law, public policy, governance and litigation.

She earned a Juris Doctor degree from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C., in 2002 and is admitted to practice in Liberia, New York State and the District of Columbia.

Her professional experience includes work in private legal practice, judicial research and public policy. She has also worked on Liberia’s Anti-Human Trafficking National Action Plan and served on the country’s World Trade Organization accession negotiation team.

Brumskine is also founder and managing attorney of CMB Law Group, LLC.

Her swearing-in formally begins her four-year tenure on the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, where she will participate in adjudicating matters within the regional court’s jurisdiction.
