Speaking at a high-level reception on Sunday, September 7, 2025 evening held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, Ambassador Chengwu said the occasion marked two significant milestones the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Ambassador Chengwu disclosed that Presidents Xi Jinping and Joseph Nyuma Boakai have maintained consistent and strategic communications through letters and other channels, which continue to guide and strengthen the relationship between China and Liberia.

“China appreciates Liberia’s commitment to the One-China Principle and its support for China’s legitimate stance,” he said. “China will continue to render mutual support to Liberia.”

He emphasized China’s backing of Liberia’s successful bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.

“We are willing to enhance communication and coordination with Liberia in multilateral affairs. Congratulations again, Liberia, on the election,” he added.

The Chinese Ambassador also recounted China’s transformation over the past 76 years, describing it as a journey from poverty to a moderately prosperous society. “The Chinese nation has achieved the great transformation from standing up and growing prosperous to becoming strong. The rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unstoppable historical trend,” he said.

According to Ambassador Chengwu, China is in the final year of its 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, and has already made significant strides in its modernization efforts.

“In the first half of this year, China’s GDP grew by 5.3 percent year-on-year, exports increased by 7.2 percent, and the total value of imports and exports of goods exceeded 21 trillion RMB,” he stated. He noted that risks in key areas were effectively managed, and that consumer prices and employment remained generally stable

He also referenced internal reforms, noting that the Communist Party of China (CPC) had launched a nationwide education campaign aimed at fostering a political culture of integrity. “Next month, the CPC will convene the Fourth Plenary Session of its 20th Central Committee to deliberate on proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan,” he said.

Ambassador Chengwu further stressed that China continues to uphold the banner of building a community with a shared future for humanity and to advance its major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. “China firmly stood on principles, withstood foreign pressures, and safeguarded its own interests as well as international fairness and justice,” he concluded.

In response, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai extended heartfelt congratulations to the People’s Republic of China on its 76th Anniversary, describing the day as a historic milestone that reflects the resilience and achievements of the Chinese people.

“We also recognize the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War,” President Boakai said. “This commemoration reminds us of the immense sacrifices made to uphold freedom and peace, and of the collective responsibility of nations to safeguard these values for all humanity.”

President Boakai also acknowledged the long-standing diplomatic ties between Liberia and China, which began on February 17, 1977. He noted that the partnership has yielded tangible benefits for both nations and continues to deepen.

“This September, we re-elevated our relations to a strategic partnership, demonstrating our shared commitment to deeper cooperation for mutual prosperity,” the Liberian Leader added. “As we strengthen these bonds, Liberia reaffirms its respect for the One-China Policy and remains committed to a foreign policy rooted in peace, mutual respect, and multilateral engagement.”
