China’s Chargé d’Affaires Fan Erwei has regarded Liberia as a good friend and partner. In a statement Tuesday night, as members of the Liberian government and media joined China to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Chargé d’Affaires Fan Erwei said this year has witnessed robust growth and fruitful outcomes in the China-Liberia Strategic Partnership.
He said, under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Boakai, high-level exchanges between our two countries have maintained good momentum, and mutual political trust has continuously been deepened.
Speaking at the occasion, Chargé d’Affaires Fan Erwei said Liberia has officially signed the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) Convention. Liberia has consistently and firmly upheld the one-China principle and provided strong support to China on multilateral issues.
He also reiterated that China has actively supported Liberia in fulfilling its responsibilities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Practical cooperation has also yielded fruitful outcomes. Thanks to China’s full implementation of zero-tariff treatment for Liberian products, bilateral trade in goods reached a new high in the first 8 months of this year, registering a year-on-year increase of 20.5 %. Liberia’s first batch of dried chili peppers for export to China has also been successfully harvested. China has actively supported Liberia’s ARREST Agenda.
The Chargé d’Affaires also mentioned that the construction of two Overpass Bridges to smoothly ease the level of traffic on the Tubman Boulevard is progressing smoothly; the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory is nearing completion; the LBS building has been completed and handed over; and the first batch of modern agricultural machinery provided with China’s assistance has arrived in Liberia.
Chargé d’Affaires Erwei said he is confident that these China-aid projects will inject impetus into Liberia’s development and revitalization, and further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between our two countries.
He also said, as an old Chinese saying goes, “No mountain and ocean can distance people with shared aspirations.” We stand ready to work together with friends from different sectors in Liberia to further advance the China-Liberia Strategic Partnership and deepen practical cooperation in various areas. I’m sure that we’ll bring more fresh impetus and fruitful outcomes to China-Liberia relations, and together open up an even brighter future!
Gracing the occasion, Chargé d’Affaires Fan Erwei said, over the past 77 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (the CPC), the Chinese people have successfully blazed a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In just a few decades, China has completed the industrialization process, grown into the world’s second largest economy, the largest industrial country, the largest agricultural country, and the largest trader in goods. Chinese modernization is advancing with great strides, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is now on an irreversible historical course.
Over the past 77 years, under the leadership of the CPC, China has achieved moderate prosperity in all respects, with people’s living standards steadily improving. China’s per capita disposable income has grown from $7 to $6,409 from 1949 to 2025. China has lifted over 700 million people out of poverty and built the world’s largest middle-income group with more than 400 million people. We have established basic old-age insurance and medical insurance systems covering more than 1 billion and 1.3 billion people respectively, weaving the world’s largest social security network. This year, the CPC launched an education campaign to establish and practice a correct understanding of governance performance; all CPC members will continue to deliver concrete benefits for the people.
Over the past 77 years, under the leadership of the CPC, China has continued to expand opening up and develop relations of friendship and cooperation with all other countries. Today, China has established partnerships with 153 countries and international organizations, has become the second-largest contributor to the United Nations regular budget and the largest contributor of peacekeeping personnel among the permanent members of the UN Security Council. For many consecutive years, China has contributed around 30 percent on average to global economic growth. In the face of global challenges, China stands ready to work with countries around the world to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Chargé d’Affaires Fan Erwei noted that this year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period. In the first half of this year, China’s GDP reached 69.6 trillion RMB, equal to around $10 trillion, growing by 4.7 percent year on year. Summer grain output exceeded 150 million tonnes for the first time. Total installed power generation capacity surpassed 4 billion kilowatts, ranking first in the world. Major breakthroughs have been made in carrier rocket recovery technology. China is now home to more than 6,000 AI enterprises and the world’s largest holder of AI-related patents. All these achievements are vivid testimony to China’s high-quality development, which will provide new opportunities for the development of all countries.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the first anniversary of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) proposed by President Xi Jinping. From 2021 to 2025, President Xi has put forward the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative respectively. Together, the four initiatives form an integral whole, which has received wide support from the international community and injected more stability and certainty for a transforming and volatile world.
This year also marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Since the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit, China and Africa have worked together in implementing the ten partnership actions for modernization with fruitful cooperation outcomes. China has extended zero-tariff treatment to 53 African countries having diplomatic relations with China. A diverse range of people-to-people exchange programs has further promoted connectivity between China and Africa. As China and Africa jointly pursue modernization, China will continue to uphold the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and work closely with African countries to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
The colorful event was graced by Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker, House of Representatives, Amb. Ethel Davis, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Liberia, some members of the 55th Legislature, Cabinet Ministers and Government Officials, Members of Diplomatic Corps and International Organizations, and some distinguished guests and Chinese citizens residing in Liberia.
