GARDNERSVILLE, LIBERIA – The Commissioner of Gardnersville Township, Hon. Dio Elliott, has embarked on a significant renovation of the Gardnersville Town Hall, marking what residents see as a long-overdue facelift to one of the township’s most important public structures.
The renovation, estimated at a cost of US$14,500, includes major improvements to the event hall, installation of new sliding glass windows and doors, a complete rewiring of the building, and other essential upgrades. Commissioner Elliott told Smart News Liberia on Friday, July 4, 2025, that the funds for the project are being raised through multiple township-imposed taxes and fees, which he said residents are willingly paying in support of development.
“For too long, this building has been neglected,” Commissioner Elliott said. “My administration is committed to restoring dignity to our township, and this renovation is just the beginning.”
Several residents who spoke to Smart News Liberia at the site of the ongoing work expressed strong support for the commissioner’s efforts.
“This is something we’ve waited for years to see,” said Amos Koffa, a longtime resident. “Under past commissioners, this building was falling apart. At least now, someone is trying to fix it.”
Standing nearby, Kona Morris nodded in agreement. “I’m proud of what Commissioner Elliott is doing. We use this Town Hall for all kinds of events, including weddings, meetings, and community discussions. It deserves better than how it’s been.”
Sarah Blama, another resident watching the renovation unfold, added, “This gives us hope. When leaders take action instead of just talking, the people feel motivated too.”
Doe Wiah, who also stopped by the site, praised the commissioner’s initiative but called for even broader engagement. “It’s good that he’s fixing the building, but the commissioner can’t do everything alone. Business people and residents must all chip in to support this progress.”
Commissioner Elliott echoed that message, urging businesses operating in the township to make meaningful contributions toward the ongoing renovation efforts. “We are doing our best with the little we have, but we cannot do it alone. The support of the business community is crucial,” he said.
The Gardnersville Town Hall, once a symbol of community unity, has reportedly been in a state of disrepair for several years. With the ongoing upgrades, residents are hopeful that the structure will soon reclaim its place as a functional and dignified public space under Commissioner Elliott’s leadership.
