Commissioner Dio Elliott Praises Pres. Boakai And Diplomat For Liberia’s UN Security Council Victory

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Commissioner of the Township of Gardnerville, Hon. Dio Himie Elliott, has issued a statement applauding Liberia’s election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026–2027 term, describing it as a “monumental achievement that reflects the strength, resilience, and renewed credibility of the Liberian state on the global stage.”

Speaking on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at his office in Gardnerville, Commissioner Dio Himie Elliott, on behalf of the people of the township, saluted the Government of Liberia under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what he described as “a proud and unifying moment in our nation’s modern diplomatic history.”

“This victory belongs to every Liberian,” Commissioner Elliott said. “It symbolizes how far we have come as a people, from the dark days of conflict to this moment of global recognition. It reminds the world that Liberia, Africa’s oldest republic, still carries the torch of freedom, democracy, and peace.”

The Commissioner paid special tribute to Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti for her leadership in steering the diplomatic campaign that led to the successful outcome. He also extended commendations to former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who served as Special Envoy for President Boakai during the campaign, and acknowledged the dedicated work of Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

“To Foreign Minister Nyanti, former President Sirleaf, our Permanent Mission in New York, and the campaign teams in Monrovia, New York, and Addis Ababa, we say thank you. Your hard work and unity of purpose have brought honor to our country,” Elliott stated.

He described the June 3 election, where Liberia received an overwhelming vote of confidence from 181 UN member states, as a clear sign that the world is ready to listen to Liberia again.

Commissioner Elliott also called on all Liberians to rally around the government as the country prepares to take up its seat on the Council in January 2026.

“This is not just a diplomatic seat. It is a platform to amplify our voice for peace, climate justice, and human dignity, not just for ourselves, but for Africa and the global South. We trust our government will represent us with integrity and conviction,” he added.

The Commissioner concluded his statement with a message of unity and pride: “May this achievement serve as a reminder to every Liberian that we are capable of greatness when we work together. Today, Gardnerville stands with the rest of Liberia in celebration, and in renewed hope.”
