U.S.-based medical charity Children’s Surgery International (CSI), in partnership with Firestone Liberia, LLC, will conduct a two-week surgical mission in Liberia in January 2027.
The 2027 mission will mark the 14th partnership between Firestone Liberia and Children’s Surgery International (CSI), continuing a shared commitment to transforming children’s lives through specialized surgical care and strengthening access to quality healthcare.
The mission will provide free surgical care for children from newborn to 13 years old with conditions affecting the ear, nose and throat (ENT), urology, facial abnormalities, imperforate anus, hernias, and other general pediatric surgical conditions. All procedures will be provided at no cost to patients and their families.
Screening for prospective patients began on September 1, 2026, and will continue through December 15, 2026. Screenings are conducted every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Firestone Medical Center (FMC) in Du-side and Harbel Health Center (HHC) in Harbel.
To support participating families, Firestone Liberia provides free accommodation and meals for children and their parents at Du-side Hospital during the screening period.
Since the partnership began in 2010, except during the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks, CSI and Firestone Liberia have helped nearly 1,500 children from across Liberia and, in some cases, neighboring countries access life-changing surgical care that would otherwise have been unavailable or unaffordable.
Beyond performing surgeries, CSI also contributes to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system by providing specialized training for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and support staff within Firestone Health Services (FHS). This partnership continues to improve lives while building local medical capacity and expanding access to quality healthcare for children and families.
