Cummings joins Nimba by-election – Liberia news The New Dawn Liberia, premier resource for latest news

The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) has publicly announced that he will join partisans in Nimba County ahead of the by-election to campaign for Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh, the sister of former Presidential Candidate and renowned human rights lawyer Cllr. Tiawon Gongloe.

Monrovia, April 9, 2025: The ANC leader, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings announced his party’s endorsement of Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh this week in an interview with journalists here.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists in Monrovia on Tuesday April 8, 2025, at the ANC-Party headquarters in Sinkor following a Youth retreat, Mr. Cummings said that the ANC has taken a consultative and collective decision to support Madam Gongloe-Weh for the senatorial seat of the country.

Providing justifications for the endorsement, Mr. Cummings stated that the party reach out and examine candidates participating in the upcoming by-election and they found Madam Gongloe-Weh most competent and qualified to represent the people of Nimba.

” So, the ANC has taken a consultative and collective decision to support Madam Gongloe-Weh in the Nimba by-election. The ANC looks at candidates, some we talk with and some, we didn’t. We evaluate them from their strength and weakness, and everyone supported Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh that is why we have chosen her,” Mr. Cummings stated.

According to him, the ANC will in the coming days begin campaigning for Madam Gongloe-Weh in the county.

” So, we will be campaigning for Madam Gongloe-Weh in the county. And so, I’m calling on all supporters of the ANC to reach out and campaign for madam Gongloe-Weh, ” he said.

For his part, Nimba County District #9 Representative Taa Z. Wongbe, recommitted his loyalty to the ANC, stressing that he has come with new energy to recruit and bring the party to life.

Commenting on the party’s decision to endorse Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh, Mr. Wongbe said he endorsed the party’s decision, adding that he will be in the county to campaign for Madam Gongloe-Weh, from his district.

” So, the decision of the ANC to support Madam Gongloe-Weh is something that I’m in support of. Madam Gongloe-Weh is from my district- I mean Nimba County District #9. Also, she has the qualifications and competence to represent Nimba in the Senate. Therefore, we will be coming out to support our sister, mother and family.
