Deputy minister arrested for Alleged rape

MONROVIA-The deputy minister for youth and Sports has been arrested by the Liberia National Police for allegedly raping an underage girl.

Deputy Minister J. McGill Bryant arrest was confirmed by the Minister of Sports Jeror Cole Bangalu told  journalists on Thursday.

Deputy Minister allegedly raped the 14 year old  girl who normally pays a regular visit to her father at the Ministry.

The alleged girl is the daughter of the Deputy Chief of Security of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“The girl’s father works here and she comes here most often to visit him.  When people see her, they think she is above age but she is actually a small girl,” one source at the Ministry said.

The minister had earlier told journalists that his deputy was in eh custody of the police.

“Yes, we can confirm that my deputy has been turned over the police. An investigation is ongoing. At the Ministry under my watch, there is zero tolerance for unethical behavior, especially sexual misconduct. We are not taking this lightly. There will be administrative action as soon as possible. This case will be pursued to the later, Minister Bangulu said.
