Desert FC Youth to Celebrate Flag Day with SDG Awareness Program | News

The Desert FC Community in Mamba Point has announced plans to celebrate Liberia’s Flag Day on August 24, 2025, with a day-long program dedicated to raising awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The celebration, which will be held at Mamba Point Beach beginning at 10:00 a.m., will feature the inauguration of a mural portraying all 17 SDGs infused with Liberian cultural and national characteristics. Organizers say the mural aims to inspire the local community and international guests staying in nearby hotels to embrace sustainable development.

Since January this year, Desert FC has conducted weekly beach cleaning exercises at Mamba Point Beach. The site serves not only as a football practice ground on Sundays but also as a potential tourism hub, given its proximity to two five-star hotels.

“This program reflects our commitment to promoting Liberia’s coastal heritage while educating people about the importance of sustainability. Liberian youth are ready to play a vital role in achieving the SDGs,” a Desert FC spokesperson said.

As part of the Flag Day activities, the community will also host beach soccer, kickball, and volleyball exhibitions throughout the day to engage residents and visitors.

Organizers are calling on the public to turn out in large numbers to celebrate this national holiday and witness how young people are using sports and creativity to drive awareness of the global development agenda.
