MONROVIA – Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), has once again been recognized internationally for his groundbreaking scientific contributions and for representing the innovative spirit of Liberia on the global stage.
In a post shared on Sunday, July 13, 2025, by Proteus Zolia, a Liberian-born entrepreneur and founder of Trillion Cells, LLC, Dr. Nyan was highlighted among the country’s top assets during a public call to global investors and institutions to engage with Liberia. Writing on LinkedIn, Zolia outlined several compelling reasons why Liberia should be considered a land of strategic value and immense potential, citing its historical role in aiding the United States during World War II and its trailblazing leaders in diplomacy, science, and sports.
Among the standouts, Dr. Nyan’s work was placed front and center. Zolia praised him as a “young scientist wired to innovate,” referencing his invention of a rapid multiplex diagnostic test capable of detecting multiple infectious diseases, including HIV, Ebola, Lassa Fever, Malaria, Zika, Dengue, Hepatitis variants, and various coronaviruses. The invention, which has earned global recognition, is considered a breakthrough for public health diagnostics, particularly in resource-limited settings.
“Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan… invented a rapid multiplex diagnostic test that detects multiple infectious diseases… His invention has been recognized internationally and is considered a breakthrough for public health,” Zolia wrote.
In the same post, Zolia urged global stakeholders to invest in Liberia, citing its historical importance during WWII when the United States relied on Liberian rubber for military supplies. He also called on institutions to hire Liberian diplomats, nurture Liberian girls, and recruit the nation’s football stars, highlighting icons like Leymah Gbowee, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, George Weah, and even Oprah Winfrey’s ancestral connection to the Kpelle people of Liberia.
Dr. Nyan’s inclusion in this list is yet another reminder of the transformative potential that exists within Liberia’s scientific community. His commitment to global public health and innovation continues to inspire a new generation of Liberian professionals aiming to make an international impact.
