ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), is currently representing Liberia at the launch of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention’s (Africa CDC) Continental One Health and Environmental Health Strategies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The high-level event brings together regional health experts, policymakers, and international partners to promote integrated solutions to public health challenges across the continent. The One Health approach being championed at the launch underscores the interconnectedness of human health, animal health, and environmental health, which is critical in the fight against zoonotic diseases and environmental threats.
Dr. Nyan, a respected infectious disease specialist and public health advocate, emphasized Liberia’s continued commitment to the One Health framework. Under his leadership, NPHIL has prioritized cross-sector collaboration in public health policy and emergency response.
“The National Public Health Institute of Liberia is an ardent implementer of the One Health approach, considering all aspects of public health safety,” Dr. Nyan stated during the proceedings. He highlighted the need for joint efforts to tackle disease outbreaks like Mpox and to build sustainable, resilient health systems.
Liberia’s participation in this continental strategy launch signals its commitment to proactive disease prevention and health security. Dr. Nyan’s presence at the Africa CDC event positions Liberia as a regional player in advancing integrated health responses and reflects a broader national strategy to align with global best practices in public health.
