After announcing the launch of mobilization efforts in Nimba and Bong, two of Liberia’s vote-rich counties, Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) leader Emmanuel D. Gonquoi is turning his attention to the west of the country.

He has identified Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu as the next targets in the party’s expansion campaign ahead of the 2029 elections.

From Bassa and Bong to Bomi, Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu, Gonquoi is signaling a widening political campaign as the EFFL prepares for the 2029 elections.

The political contest leading up to Liberia’s 2029 elections may be taking shape sooner than anticipated, and Gonquoi appears intent on ensuring his party keeps pace.

Following the announcement of mobilization efforts in Bassa and Bong, the EFFL leader is now focusing on Liberia’s western region, naming Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties as the next areas for the party’s growing campaign.

In a forceful statement that serves as both a warning to political opponents and a call to supporters, Gonquoi said: “The next Group of leaders coming to Monrovia are Bomi, Cape Mount and Gbarpolu! The unstoppable Red Sea!”

The statement points to a potentially broader campaign to turn EFFL’s grassroots mobilization into a powerful political force ahead of the 2029 general and presidential elections.

Gonquoi’s mention of Bassa and Bong indicates that the party is following a planned, county-by-county approach, aiming to establish local leadership structures and broaden its support beyond its existing strongholds.

Yet his latest declaration does more than announce another phase of political organizing. It sends a clear signal of the party’s ambition to challenge Liberia’s established political order.

“EFFL is here to heal our Country from poverty, injustice, insecurity and lack of progressive leadership!” Gonquoi vowed.

The statement puts poverty, injustice, and insecurity at the heart of the party’s political message, while presenting EFFL as an alternative to what it sees as a lack of progressive leadership.

With Bomi, Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu now named as the next targets for mobilization, Gonquoi is portraying a movement intent on carrying its message from the counties to Monrovia.

Whether the self-described unstoppable Red Sea can turn its expanding mobilization rhetoric into measurable grassroots backing and electoral strength remains uncertain.

Still, one point is becoming increasingly clear: Gonquoi wants EFFL to be part of the political conversation well before the 2029 campaign officially begins—and he appears determined to make the counties the route to Monrovia.
