CAIRO, Egypt, September 14, 2026 — Egypt and Liberia have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, development and capacity-building while strengthening coordination on regional security and priorities before the United Nations Security Council.
The commitments followed high-level talks between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti in Cairo.
During the meeting, the two ministers reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to broadening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of political, economic and development cooperation.
The discussions focused on expanding trade and investment while drawing on Egypt’s technical expertise to support Liberia’s development priorities.
Egypt expressed readiness to share its experience in areas including infrastructure, agriculture and human resource development in support of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
Nyanti welcomed Egypt’s support and emphasized Liberia’s interest in partnerships capable of producing tangible benefits, including job creation, investment and stronger national institutions.
The two foreign ministers also discussed regional peace and security, with developments in Sudan featuring prominently in their talks.
They stressed the need for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving conflicts peacefully and promoting stability across Africa.
The ministers also underscored the importance of African-led approaches to addressing conflicts and other security challenges confronting the continent.
Liberia’s tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council was another major focus of the discussions.
The two sides explored closer coordination on issues before the Council, particularly matters affecting Africa and the continent’s peace, security and development priorities.
Nyanti said Liberia is committed to using its position on the Security Council to amplify Africa’s voice and advance the continent’s interests on major international issues.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Liberia’s role and pledged continued consultation and coordination during the country’s tenure on the Council.
The talks reflect efforts by Monrovia and Cairo to move beyond traditional diplomatic relations toward broader economic, development and multilateral cooperation.
Both sides expressed interest in translating their political ties into stronger cooperation that could advance their national interests while contributing to peace, security and development across Africa.
