MONROVIA – In a formal ceremony held on July 23, 2025, at the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Headquarters in Monrovia, eleven senior officers were elevated from the rank of Major to Lieutenant Colonel in accordance with Special Order No. 2 dated July 17, 2025. The ceremony took place in the Chief of Staff Conference Room at the Barclay Training Center and was marked by military tradition, reflections on service, and a strong call for gender inclusivity within the ranks.
The newly promoted officers are Maj Michael Blaselee Wilson, Maj Eden Theophilus Jallay, Maj Abraham P. Kamara, Maj Cadocan Browne, Maj El-Dorado N. Jebboe, Maj Himmie S. Killen, Maj James D. Fahnbulleh II, Maj Clarence Korvah, Maj Thomas P. Bombo, Maj Soko Sirleaf, and Maj John Zayzay.
Colonel Roland T. Murphy, Commander of the AFL’s 23rd Infantry Brigade, delivered guidance to the officers, urging them to demonstrate approachability, lead by example, remain open to feedback, and continually develop their professional competencies. He also encouraged them to embrace change and mentor the next generation of officers as they prepare to confront new and evolving challenges.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Lieutenant Colonel Michael B. Wilson expressed gratitude to the AFL leadership and reaffirmed the collective commitment of the newly promoted officers to ensuring mission success. He acknowledged the sacrifices of their families and recognized their vital support during difficult periods in service.
Among the distinguished guests at the ceremony was Counselor Bornor M. Varmah, President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA). He attended at the invitation of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas P. Bombo, who also serves as President of the Margibi County Bar Association. Cllr. Varmah commended the AFL for its discipline and professionalism and reaffirmed the Bar’s support to the military’s constitutional mandate. He encouraged the new officers to uphold the values of patriotism and service, and to protect Liberia’s peace and sovereignty.
In his closing remarks, AFL Chief of Staff Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh challenged the newly promoted officers to exhibit disciplined leadership and integrity in positions of authority. However, he also voiced disappointment over the lack of female representation among those promoted. Maj. Gen. Forleh emphasized the urgent need to bolster gender inclusivity within the AFL, particularly at senior command levels. He called for proactive efforts in recruiting and promoting qualified women across the force, aligning with the institution’s broader policy on gender equity.
