MONROVIA – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia, in collaboration with the Presidential Executive Order 143 Taskforce, the Ministry of Public Works, Paynesville City Corporation, Monrovia City Corporation, Liberia Land Authority, and the General Services Agency, with support from the Liberia National Police, has launched a major demolition campaign beginning today, April 16, 2025.
The operation is aimed at enforcing the Environmental Protection and Management Law of Liberia and the directives contained in Executive Order 143. Demolition activities are currently underway in key locations including SKD Boulevard, Police Academy, Tyler Island, and Jacob Town.
Ahead of the exercise, the EPA held a press conference on April 8, 2025, to alert the public and provided advance notices to those affected. The agency also conducted outreach meetings with individuals found violating the environmental regulations.
The EPA is now urging all property owners with structures in wetlands, waterways, and along beachfronts to voluntarily dismantle them. Failure to comply will result in forced removal by the authorities.
Additionally, those engaged in ongoing construction or illegal dumping in restricted areas are being warned to cease immediately. The EPA pointed to last year’s devastating flooding, largely blamed on clogged drainage systems and unauthorized structures, as a stark reminder of the consequences of ignoring environmental laws.
