MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Eugene L. Fahngon, has launched a scathing attack on Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, accusing him of hypocrisy and betrayal. In a strongly worded Facebook post published today, May 28, 2025, Fahngon demanded that Senator Snowe either resign from the ECOWAS Parliament or be recalled, alleging that the senator is working against the success of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s government.
“SEN. Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr.; YOU CANNOT BE PRAYING FOR JNB TO FAIL AND AT THE SAME TIME WORKING FOR HIM TO SUCCEED @ ECOWAS .. RESIGN OR BE RECALL FROM ECOWAS!” Fahngon wrote, expressing outrage over Snowe’s alleged statements aimed at undermining the Liberian administration.
The latest criticism follows growing backlash from senior officials of the Unity Party government and its supporters, who are accusing Senator Snowe of disloyalty and inciting instability. The controversy stems from an earlier statement attributed to Snowe in which he allegedly vowed to use his influence within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to ensure the failure of the Boakai-led administration.
The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), issued a statement on May 24, 2025, condemning what it called “irresponsible and inflammatory” remarks by the Bomi lawmaker. According to MICAT, Senator Snowe reportedly claimed he would “do everything possible including using his connections in ECOWAS to make the Boakai-led government fail,” even if that meant discouraging foreign direct investment and promoting instability in Liberia until he becomes president.
In its statement, the Government reminded all public officials that no citizen has the right to sabotage their country’s governance or exploit regional institutions to serve personal political ambitions. The administration warned that such threats could have serious consequences for national security and Liberia’s diplomatic reputation within the West African region.
Senator Snowe has not publicly responded to Fahngon’s demand or the government’s formal condemnation, but the mounting criticisms from within and outside the Unity Party circle are increasing pressure on the lawmaker to clarify his stance.
Snowe’s role as a member of the ECOWAS Parliament places him at the center of a diplomatic storm, as the allegations of using a regional platform to destabilize Liberia have ggenerated concerns over ethics and patriotism. As the controversy deepens, many political observers are now watching closely to see whether Snowe will retain his ECOWAS seat or face official moves for his removal.
