Following their successes in the last edition of Liberia’s domestic league, both FC Fassel and newcomers Blackman Worries are set to represent Liberia in this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions. FC Fassel will participate in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds, while Blackman Worries will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds.
The first-leg matches for both competitions are scheduled for September 19 and 20, 2025, at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex (S.K.D.) in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
Liberia’s current first-division league champions, FC Fassel, recently returned from a month-long intensive training camp in Cairo, Egypt. The squad is reportedly in high spirits for Saturday’s mouth-watering encounter, boosted by a top-notch European coach and several foreign players. During their preparation in Egypt, Fassel played multiple friendly matches against notable Egyptian clubs, emerging undefeated.
The Liberian side’s readiness for the continental event will be tested by former CAF champions and semifinalists, MC Algers of Algeria, in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds. The 66-member MC Algers delegation arrived in Liberia on Wednesday, including players, technical staff, journalists, chefs, and doctors. Qualification to the group stage would be a historic milestone for Liberian football, marking the first time a Liberian club has achieved such a feat.
Meanwhile, Liberia’s current knockout champions, Blackman Worries, making their maiden appearance on the international stage, will welcome Cotton Sports of Benin on Sunday, September 20, 2025, at the S.K.D. Sports Complex. Expectations are high for the Black and White outfit to progress beyond the first round, despite missing some of their brightest talents who have sought opportunities elsewhere.
Compared to their counterparts, Blackman Worries have had limited preparation ahead of this crucial engagement in the annual CAF event, and little is publicly known about their final squad and training regimen. Nevertheless, fans are eager to witness another thrilling showpiece of Liberian football on the continental stage.
